How We Review Headphones

Every recommendation on BudgetHeadphone follows the same process. We do not score products randomly. We do not base reviews on spec sheets. We evaluate every headphone against one standard: is this worth your money for an Indian buyer?

Here is exactly how we do it.

Our Scoring Categories

1. Sound Quality (25 points)

We test sound across music Indians actually listen to — Bollywood, EDM, classical, and podcasts. We evaluate bass response (critical for Indian music genres), vocal clarity, and whether the sound signature suits the price point. A ₹999 earbud is not compared to a ₹5000 headphone — it is compared to every other ₹999 earbud.

2. Call Quality (20 points)

In India, headphones are used heavily for calls — WhatsApp, Google Meet, work calls. We test microphone quality in real conditions: indoors, outdoors, and in noisy environments like Indian streets and public transport. ENC (Environmental Noise Cancellation) performance is specifically evaluated.

3. Battery Life (15 points)

We verify claimed battery life against real-world usage. A product that claims 40 hours and delivers 28 hours scores lower than one that claims 30 and delivers 32. We also evaluate charging time and whether fast charging is available.

4. Build Quality & Comfort (20 points)

Indian conditions are demanding — heat, sweat, dust, and daily commuting. We evaluate: comfort for extended wear, durability of the cable and connector, IPX sweat/water resistance rating, and whether the build quality matches the price.

5. Value for ₹ (20 points)

This is the most important category. A product can sound good but still be poor value if a cheaper alternative exists. We compare every product against the best alternatives in its price band on Amazon India and Flipkart. This score reflects whether this is the smartest way to spend your specific budget.

Price Bands We Cover

  • Under ₹500 — wired earphones, entry-level TWS
  • ₹500 – ₹1000 — the most competitive segment in India
  • ₹1000 – ₹2000 — where most Indian buyers spend
  • ₹2000 – ₹3500 — budget ANC, premium neckbands, solid over-ear
  • ₹3500 – ₹5000 — mid-range, often international brands

Indian Brands We Regularly Review

We specifically cover brands that dominate the Indian market but are underreviewed globally: boAt, Noise, Boult Audio, realme, OnePlus, CMF by Nothing, Mivi, pTron and others. These brands are bought by millions of Indians every month and deserve serious, honest coverage.

Where We Source Products

We purchase products ourselves via Amazon India and Flipkart at full retail price. Occasionally manufacturers send review units — when this happens, we disclose it clearly in the review. Receiving a review unit does not influence our score. We have given negative reviews to products received as samples.

Pricing Policy

All prices on BudgetHeadphone are in ₹ Indian Rupees and reflect Amazon India or Flipkart pricing at the time of publishing. Prices change frequently — always check the current price before purchasing. We update articles when we are aware of significant price changes.

Affiliate Links

We use Amazon India affiliate links. When you buy through our links, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This revenue keeps the site running. Our affiliate relationship never influences our recommendations — we have recommended products and directly linked to competitors when they offer better value.

Corrections & Updates

We update reviews when products receive firmware updates that significantly change performance, when prices change substantially, or when new information comes to light. If you believe a review is inaccurate, please contact us — we take corrections seriously.
